If you're looking for some of the best fishing in the State of Florida then you should
put Cedar Key on your next place to visit. If fishing is your forte', hobby, or pleasure
then look no further... the islands of Cedar Key are an excellent place to indulge in
all of your fishing pleasures.
What kind of fish are you looking for?... Reds, Trout (many species), Pompano,
Cobia, Tarpon, Shark (many species), Grouper (many species), Bass (many
species), Flounder, Red Snapper, Cedar Key Snapper, Sheepshead, Spanish
Mackerel, Kingfish, Jacks (many species), Bluefish, etc., etc., etc.
Winter Redfish Fishing TipLarge schools of redfish, many over the 27-inch maximum limit, are cruising
the inner grassflats at Cedar Key. Schools 50 yards long, 20 yards wide, and
packed like sardines sometimes appear.
Find such a school, get a plastic jig into it, and a hookup is virtually guaranteed.
Once that fish is subdued, find the school again, and the fun can last all day.
The key to finding these schools is to prowl the grassflats between Deadmans
Key and the outer keys, starting midway through the flood tide. Polarized glasses
are a big help. But even without them, schools often reveal themselves by the
"push" of water they make. (See monster Redfish below)
